>> ama: good evening, we do begin with breaking news in san francisco. abc-7 news reporter sergio quinn tan nice on california and hyde streets were police are searching for a gunman. reporter: and actually california just opened within the last two minutes. it had been shut down to traffic since 6:30 this evening. let's show you some video we just shot. a little less than an hour ago, a man and woman were brought out in auction, police tell us this was a domestic violence situation and they were called here by neighbor of the couple. the neighbor told police he heard the couple were arguing in their apartment. he knocked on their door, and the man said he had a gun, and that prompted this response by police. now after three and a half hours of negotiations, the couple did come out unharmed. and they have been taken into custody. police tell us they have not yet found a firearm but they are searching that apartment. reporting live in san francisco, sergio quinn tan fashion abc-7 news. >> ama: an emotional outpouring for the victims of the deadly shooting in connecticut. people

in san francisco, cate caugiran, cbs 5. >>> a south bay family is devastated by a weekend fire. three members of the family were killed in the fire inside a two-story townhouse on bridgeport court on the west side of san jose. a couple and their 4-year-old granddaughter were trapped on the upper floor. firefighters arrived in minutes but the entire building was already engulfed in flames. >> this fire somehow got a really billing head start on us. it burned hot and it burned very fast. it consumed most of the apartment even within a three minute response time for us. >> two victims had lived in the complex for about 20 years. their granddaughter also died. another family member was reported to be in intensive care. two other people suffered smoke inhalation including a san jose police officer who tried to help the victims. >>> 4:32 now. secretary of state hillary clinton is under observation at a new york hospital this morning because of a blood clot. her doctors discovered the clot yesterday in a follow-up exam following a concussion she had suffered earlier this month. her spokesman

caugiran is in san francisco where the district is providing school counselors for kids there today. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. obviously this is a difficult time for everyone not just there on the east coast but here in the bay area, as well. parents and teachers are reaching out for what to say to their students and to their children. san francisco's unified school district posted this message on its website. district leaders offered their thoughts and sympathies and said we are all grieving today. the district says grief counselors will be available for students and educators to help them cope with last friday's shooting. the horrifying images and senseless violence from the newtown shootingville packed everyone across the country. district leaders say they want to be cognizant of the emotional needs of students but they also want students to know they are safe. >> this is a random -- an isolated event and it's -- it could happen to anyone anywhere, though it most likely will not. >> reporter: dr. berry says younger children will have a harder time understanding and it's
